Press Release of the KCK 28.07.2011

Presidency of Executive Committee of People’s Union of Kurdistan (KCK)

The aggressive and intolerant approach of the AKP government towards the democratic political will of the Kurdish people has lead to developments verging on a civil war in Turkey. We share the people’s justified apprehension in this environment of violence and tension.
The democratic and peaceful approach of our Movement and Leader Abdullah Ocalan for a solution to the Kurdish issue is constantly being exploited by the attitude of the AKP government; leaving this matter unresolved. Despite our Leader’s intensive efforts for peace and the continuing policies of our Movement for a democratic-peaceful solution, the Erdogan-led AKP is using the deaths of the soldiers in Silvan, who were carrying out a military operation, as a way to legitimise their attacks against us. The Habur incident and recently Silvan is being used as a deception employed by Erdogan as a way to declare the process at ‘breaking point;’ this does not serve the joint future of the Kurdish and Turkish peoples.

The attacks of the army and police have once again become daily common practice in Kurdistan. Despite all our positive efforts, the government has not taken any steps for a solution, and instead decided to implement the tested and tried method of reintroducing the army and police force to get a result. The provocative and incendiary statements targeting Kurds by AKP officials has led to fascist and racist attacks in Zeytinburnu, Manisa and many other places in the country. The racist and fascistic language used by the militant polemicists and hacks of the joint AKP-Gulen Jamaat (Communion) is creating a mentality of lynching and massacre against Kurds. So much so that the recent declaration by one of the Gulen Jamaat’s special war theoreticians that ‘from now on friend and foe alike will see what the Gulen Jamaat are capable of ’ is an open sign of the attacks and massacres to come. This tone is doubtless being used to scare, intimidate and pacifise society. This group even goes as far as saying that the Turkish state and armed forces should do to the Kurdish Freedom Movement what the Sri Lankan state did the Tamil Elam Tigers. This is also a sign of the proximity between the AKP and Gulen Jamaat and their monstrous mentality.

The aggressive policies of the AKP government following the 12th June 2011 elections have led to appalling human rights abuses. There has been a steep rise in police brutality in Turkey and Kurdistan, but this has been portrayed as being daily fare. Since the AKP came to power in 2002, the death of Kurdish children has risen to unacceptable figures. The statement, ‘Whether they are women or children our security forces will do what is necessary,’ by Erdogan in front of cameras has given state murderers free rein to do what they please. The murder of 13 year old Ugur Kaymaz and his father was the beginning of this planned, concious and well organised special war method; and how many children have been killed since?

The brutal attacks of the AKP’s police force claims new lives every day, as well as wounding and maiming many. The last casualty of the gas bombs and batons was 13 year old Dogan Teyboga who was killed on 28th July 2011 when a gas bomb struck him on the head.  In Silopi 8 year old Zeynep Oduk and in Agri Dogubeyazit Rahim Karahan were also seriously wounded. We send our condolences to the family of Dogan Teyboga and to the people of Kurdistan and send our get well-wishes to our wounded children.

It is evident that the racist and fascistic mentality is acting with the belief that ‘Kurds deserve it.’ The Prime Minister, who is constantly shedding tears for the children of Palestine and Gazze, is silent when it is Kurdish children in question. How can he explain this? Until now there have not been any adequate investigations following the murders of Kurdish children at the hands of the police, the cases that have been brought to court have been swept under the carpet.

Therefore we are calling on our people to be aware of these fascistic, racist and genocidal attacks and organise against them while developing their means of legitimate defence.

We are more confident than ever that the democracy forces of Turkey and the people of Kurdistan will realise and support democratic autonomy, the project for a fraternal and free existence of all peoples and construct this democratic system to end all racism, fascism and violence.

Dear Members of the Press;

In particular our people should be aware that a new and political struggle and leap forward has commenced and thus should strengthen its organization and target success on the basis of a high level participation.
